Hold onto your glue guns and glitter, folks, as we step behind the scenes at Make It Cute Kids! A female-founded and mom-founded brand, today is a very special day for Amanda, Anne, and Maureen. Their group's Mother’s Day wish? “Our own children are our inspiration,” the trio says, “and we will continue to think of them in our mind throughout all stages of this journey.” They add, “As mothers, and environmentally conscious members of the world, our wish for Mother’s Day is to really continue the mission that we set out to achieve: creating a sustainable toy that is non-toxic, aesthetically pleasing, made in the US, and keeps our kids entertained for hours.
Today, we're giving you a front-row seat to the Mother's Day magic in the home of one of our fabulous founders, Maureen North. Maureen isn’t just a play/sustainability/business trailblazer but also a doting mom, who celebrates this special day with a delightful mix of family time, self-care, and (wait for it...) a blissful sleep-in! (Can we blame her?)
From childhood days spent creating kitchen catastrophes in an attempt to serve breakfast in bed, to now cherishing the beauty of balancing family bonding with some much-needed 'me-time,' Maureen has a unique take on Mother's Day that's as refreshing as a new pack of craft paper. Let’s take a trip back in time. What did Mother’s Day look like at home as a kid?
Mother's Day stood always stood out as a grand celebration, cocooned within the comfort of our mother's and grandparent's company. We were fortunate to live just a stone's throw away from our grandparents, and their love was always very present. One of my most vivid recollections of Mother's Day is of a young, ambitious version of me attempting to concoct a breakfast feast for my mother. The crack of dawn would find me in the heart of the kitchen, armed with a mixing spoon and a dream. Year after year, I'd take on the culinary challenge, assembling toast, eggs, and anything else that seemed breakfast-worthy, all to be served in the cozy comfort of my mother's bed. Despite my best efforts, the kitchen would invariably end up resembling a mini hurricane aftermath - a whirlwind of ingredients and cookware marking my culinary expedition. But, the radiant smile on my mother's face upon receiving her breakfast in bed, no matter how messy the process, made it all worth it.
Flash forward to today. What does Mother’s Day look like in your household?
Mother's Day in our household is doing something for ourselves, spending quality time with family, and relaxing! It’s all about the me-time on this day.
What do you consider the perfect Mother’s Day?
Of course, family time on Mother's Day is undeniably special, but I also believe it's equally essential to carve out moments just for yourself. As mothers, our days are often filled to the brim, making sure everyone around us is taken care of. It’s easy to put yourself second. Or third, or fourth… So, Mother's Day can be a perfect opportunity to indulge in the activities that often take a backseat in the whirlwind of daily life.
A few hours of pampering at a spa, diving into a good book, and a great workout session. Even better, a leisurely brunch with friends, filled with laughter and stories, free from the juggle of sippy cups and coloring books. (Kids nearby, but delightfully entertained and distracted by their Make It Cute playhouse.)
For me, Mother's Day is about striking that perfect balance. It's a day to revel in the joy of being a mother while also remembering to celebrate oneself. What better day to remind us of this than Mother's Day?
